What is Xylitol?

XYWHITE uses natural xylitol, a sugar alcohol that shows the greatest promise in cavity prevention. It inhibits the growth of the bacteria that cause cavities because decay-causing bacteria are unable to use xylitol as a food source.  With prolonged xylitol use, fewer and fewer of these bad bacteria survive on tooth surfaces. This leads to less plaque and the level of acids attacking the tooth surface is also lessened.

Xylitol has been widely-studied for the past 40 years and has been approved for safety by the Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines, as well as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the World Health Organization’s Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives and the European Union’s Scientific Committee for Food.

Xylitol Prevents Tooth Decay

Xylitol helps you avoid tooth decay by preventing the conditions that allow cavities to form. The decay-causing bacteria in your mouth (namely Streptococcus mutans) cannot use xylitol as a food source, so over time, fewer and fewer of these bad bacteria survive on tooth surfaces. This in turn means the acidic conditions created by the waste products of these bacteria is avoided, thus, also preventing the demineralization of tooth surfaces due to the acidic environment.

Xylitol Lessens Dental Plaque

Bacterial colonies which adhere to teeth are a fundamental factor in cavity formation. With prolonged use of xylitol, the population of bacteria in the mouth will shift to more of the types which are less capable of adhering to and colonizing tooth surfaces thus leading to less dental plaque.

Xylitol Helps with Re-mineralization

Dental plaque creates an acidic – low pH range – environment on the tooth’s surface which will hinder re-mineralization. A healthy mouth will have a neutral pH range of 7. Anything lower than that is considered acidic. Furthermore, a pH range of 5.5 and below already causes the teeth to demineralize putting them at risk of cavities.  With the reduction of plaque formation because of xylitol, the less acidic conditions enable tooth remineralization to take place.

Studies have shown that the xylitol molecule itself may help to promote tooth remineralization. Samples of demineralized tooth enamel immersed in a solution providing an ideal environment for remineralization with 20% xylitol showed a higher degree of repair compared to solutions without xylitol, suggesting that xylitol may assist in the movement of calcium ions contributing to tooth remineralization.

Baking Soda

A tried and tested natural cleansing agent. Baking soda is a well-known remedy to many oral health issues such as halitosis, gum disease, mouth ulcers/sores, etc. It is also an effective tooth whitening agent.

One study found that toothpastes with baking soda – like Xywhite – are relatively more effective compared to others when it comes to overall plaque removal.

Silica is a mineral that allows our teeth (and bones) to absorb much needed Calcium. That makes it an important contributor to the re-mineralization process which is responsible for keeping the teeth strong and healthy. This ingredient is an absolute essential in the constant battle against tooth decay and tooth loss.

Anise contains antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. It also offers a distinct flavor that further enhances the overall taste and quality of both Xywhite Toothpaste and Xywhite Gum Care Toothpaste. Along with other ingredients, Anise helps Xywhite users gain fresher breath.

Eucalyptus combines its anti-microbial properties and cooling effect to help prevent unwanted oral health issues such as gingivitis, bad breath and tooth decay.

Clove Oil provides natural protection against bad bacteria that can cause gum disease. Thanks to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring antioxidant that is known to bring many benefits to the human body. In the area of oral health, Coenzyme Q10 is essential in maintaining healthy gums. It helps treat gum disease at a faster rate and plays a huge role in keeping the gums in a healthy state.

Turmeric contains Curcumin which Xywhite Gum Care utilizes. It is an active substance that has been extensively used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. With powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, Curcumin helps prevent and treat periodontal (gum) disease through Xywhite Gum Care.
